In the liturgy, you are much more than simple ‘helpers of the parish priest.’ Above all, you are servers of Jesus Christ, of the eternal High Priest. Thus, you, altar servers, are called in particular to be young friends of Jesus. Be determined to go deeper and to cultivate a friendship with him. You will discover that in Jesus you have found a true friend for life.

— Pope Saint John Paul II

Thank you to our Altar Servers and their parents and guardians for your commitment. Altar Serving is both a privilege and a help to the parish, and we are grateful for your service.

Responsibilities of an Altar Server

Altar Servers serve at the Altar of the Lord. In doing so, they are joining with the priest celebrant and the congregation in offering their worship to God. In purely physical terms, the Altar Server:

  • Assists the Priest in the celebration of the Mass and other liturgies
  • Lends dignity and solemnity to the rites
  • Helps lead the community in its worship

Why?

For love of God. And we meet Him through the Church community, the ordained Priest, the Holy Eucharist, and the proclamation of the Word.

Altar Servers are Formed

Training is held periodically. Servers receive proper formation, including instruction on the Sacred Liturgy and the parts of the Mass and their meaning, the objects used in the liturgy, including their names and use, and the various functions, movements, and gestures of the server during the Mass and other liturgical celebrations.

Is the Lord Calling You to Serve?

If you have received the sacrament of Holy Eucharist and are interested in learning more about being an Altar Server, please contact the parish office.
