Saint Patrick Catholic Church & School supports the Loyola Jesuit Secondary School (LJSS) in Malawi, Africa. Tacoma-born Jesuit, Father Peter Henriot, Director of Development of the LJSS and a familiar face at Saint Patrick Catholic Church, alum of the class of 1950 at Saint Patrick Catholic School was instrumental in the opening of the first secondary school in Malawi on September 7, 2015, when 144 girls and boys arrived at LJSS, to begin Form One (Grade Nine) in the Jesuit tradition of education. Fr. Simon Makuru, Head Teacher, Fr. Ken Simalalo, Chaplain, Fr. Alojz Podgrajsek, Project Manager were key leaders in graduating the first class of students in 2019.

Photos of the first day of school at LJSS share the joy of the incoming class of 2019 comprised of the 144 boys and girls who arrived to begin 9th grade on September 7, 2015— the first class of students in the newly built building— the first Jesuit school for secondary education in Malawi, Africa. That day, Fr. Peter exclaimed that he had “plenty of reason to smile, especially remembering the generosity of parishioners at Saint Patrick Catholic Church & School who help make it all possible.
