Then the righteous will answer him and say,‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you drink? When did we see you a stranger and welcome you, or naked and clothe you? When did we see you ill or in prison, and visit you?’ And the king will say to them in reply, ‘Amen, I say to you, whatever you did for one of these least brothers of mine, you did for me.’Matthew 25:37-40
What is Outreach?
Outreach is an activity of providing services to any populations who might not otherwise have access to those services. Outreach is meeting those in need of services at the locations where those in need are. Outreach occurs within and outside of our parrish boundaries. In addition to delivering services, outreach has an educational role of raising the awareness of existing services to those who need them and raising awareness of the need for outreach.
Outreach is small acts of kindness for our neighbors, outreach is taking part in community service, or contribute to the Church’s large-scale humanitarian efforts serving those living in the margins. These actions connect us with our brothers and sisters and remind us that God often allows us to be the answer to someone else’s prayers.
Your Gifts are Essential
Finding ministry within which to serve is easy because there are many options to choose from. There is one that is best suited for you— one that matches the gifts and talents that God graced you with with the needs of the ministry.
We Are a Community of Communities
The Great Commission created the infrastructure for basic ministerial functions within the Church. Our Parish is a community of communities. Every person’s faith journey is different, and every person’s interests and talents will lead them to different places. And yet, we are all of the Body of Christ.
Ministries Fulfill the Church Mission
Regardless of the form outreach takes, Jesus calls to serve others.
