Prayer, Fasting, and Almsgiving in Lent
We encourage families with children to include their babies, toddlers, and big kids.
Lent is a season of prayer, reflection, and renewal—a time to draw closer to Christ through meaningful practices.
Below are opportunities to deepen your faith this Lent. Stay connected as we continue to share ways to pray, fast, and give as a community.

Bring your family, friends, and an open heart—and if you’d like to get extra comfy, feel free to bring a blanket or camp chair for a cozy viewing experience. Light refreshments are available; feel free to bring something to share.
Let’s make this Lent a season of transformation, reflection, and deeper faith. All are welcome; need not be Catholic or a parishioner.
Fasting & Abstinence
Ash Wednesday, March 5, and Good Friday, April 18, are days of fasting and abstinence. Fridays of Lent are also days of abstinence.
Fasting, almsgiving, and prayer are the three traditional disciplines of Lent. The faithful and catechumens should undertake these practices seriously in a spirit of penance and of preparation for Baptism or of renewal of Baptism at Easter.
Code of Canon Law, 1249-1252
Fasting is to be observed by all eighteen and older who have not yet celebrated their sixtieth birthday. On a fast day, one full meal is allowed. Two other meals, sufficient to maintain strength, may be taken according to each one’s needs, but together, they should not equal another full meal. Eating between meals is not permitted, but liquids, including milk and juice, are allowed.
Abstinence is observed by all fourteen years of age and older. On days of abstinence, no meat is allowed. Note that when health or ability to work would be seriously affected, the law does not oblige.
Walk to Calvary with Jesus
The Health Ministry’s annual Meatless Fridays in Lent campaign starts on the first Friday of Lent and ends on Good Friday.
It’s a beautiful way to improve not only your spiritual well-being but also your health. The Health Ministry invites you to try a new, tasty meatless recipe each week and recommends that you take a healthful walk of at least 1/3 of a mile each Sunday to commemorate the distance Jesus walked on his journey to Calvary and reflect on the Prayer for Sundays during Lent during your walk.
A Chance to Win
Everyone who goes meatless on all Fridays in Lent is eligible for a chance to win a $100 Metropolitan Market gift card courtesy of the Health Ministry.
